Why it works

The Chubby Popper 42 is built around a curved body that makes it easy to create pinpoint splash + dive and then roll straight into a speedy dog-walking action. This is a high-control topwater for situations where fish are up but selective.

How to fish it (practical)

1) Pop–Dive–Pause (most reliable)
Pop once, let it dive slightly, then pause. Repeat with irregular timing to imitate fleeing fry.

2) Fast walk-the-dog
With short downward twitches, keep it sliding side-to-side on top—great for covering water on flats and along weed edges.

3) Tight target popping (docks / shade / pockets)
Make short casts and use small pops to keep it in the strike zone longer.

Recommended setup

• Rod: Light–Medium Light (spinning) or finesse baitcaster

• Line: 8–12 lb mono/nylon (helps it stay high); or braid + short mono leader

• Tip: If fish swipe and miss, slow the cadence and extend the pause.
