Description
Why it works
Pompadour 79 is designed to draw fish up from cover with a unique combination of metal wings (crawler-style surface “paddling”) plus a rear prop / hook hanger that adds extra noise and splash. The result is a big, audible surface footprint—great for aggressive strikes in low light, around shade lines, and over shallow cover.
How to fish it (practical)
1) Slow crawl (most consistent)
Cast past target cover (dock edges, laydowns, weed edges) and start a slow, steady retrieve. Let the wings “crawl” and keep the lure tracking on top.
2) Speed change + pause
Give a 2–3 turn speed burst, then pause. The commotion change often triggers followers.
3) Tight spots / under trees
Short casts and quick starts help you work under overhangs—keep rod tip up to maintain surface crawl.
Recommended setup
Rod: Medium / Medium-Heavy (topwater)
Line: 30–50 lb braid or 15–20 lb mono (mono helps keep it high)
Tip: If fish swipe and miss, slow down and add longer pauses.
